Theme: Student Support

Ever wonder how many of the students actually receive a degree or certificate from Mt. SAC?  This workshop will provide insight into how many of our nearly 60,000 students actually receive degrees and certificates and from what areas.  This topic is becoming increasingly important as the California Community College Chancellor’s Office implements its Student Success funding model that allocates funds (in part) based on the numbers of certificates and degrees awarded by each campus.  Participants will receive an overview of the campus’ degree awarding process, learn facts about why students are commonly denied degrees/certificates and simple strategies that can be useful in helping your program award more degrees/certificates.

Outcomes:

1. Faculty will learn the degree/certificate A&R process to provide direct assistance to their students to ensure the application (and reasons for denial) are decreased.
2. Faculty will gain a better understanding of deadlines that must be met to ensure a student receives their degree/certificate.
