Theme: Pedagogy/Creative Teaching
Research shows that students who engage in research with their instructors feel more connection to their coursework and their instructors (Lindsay, 2002). Developing research competence also helps students build confidence and enhance their resume. This workshop will focus on how to help students get EXCITED about conducting fun, meaningful, and ETHICAL research. Who says “fun research” is an oxymoron?!?
Also, did you know our campus has its very own “IRB” (Institutional Review Board) whose mission is to ensure that all human subjects research is in compliance with federal, institutional, and ethical guidelines??? Come learn about our IRB and its relevance to you and your students.
Outcomes:
- Faculty will demonstrate awareness of the role research plays in student engagement.
- Faculty will discuss ideas for making research fun and enjoyable.
- Faculty will demonstrate awareness of the function of the Institutional Review Board and the significant role the IRB plays in protecting our students.
