Description | Theme: Equity & Inclusion
The very nature of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is to develop pedagogy for creating equity and inclusion in the classroom environment that all students will benefit and become engaged in the learning process. This presentation will be of interest to all faculty wanting to implement new and exciting strategies that ensure classes are educationally accessible regardless of learning style, physical, or sensory abilities. The discussion will include a case study of a blind student studying art history.
Outcomes:
- The session will revisit the concepts of equity and inclusion with UDL in the classroom environment and allow faculty to exchange ideas about their current pedagogy and ways they have worked to develop new methods to enhance equity and inclusion.
- The session will also incorporate a discussion that will invite faculty to discuss challenges with equity and inclusion in the classroom and allow all faculty to offer possible solutions to these challenges.
- Ideally, all faculty will come away from the session having revisited the concepts presented and have developed some new thoughts, methods, and strategies to incorporate in their pedagogical approaches to teaching.
